Answers...
1. Why are we doing this now? It’s been 11 years (1998) since our church has
worked
on Values, Mission, and Vision statements. The intention then was to
repeat the
process in 2003. It’s now 2009. We have a new pastor and many
new members.
Visitors are asking about our vision for the future. It’s time!
2. What are the Biblical Principles that shaped this process? Acts 4:32, “All
the
believers were in one heart and mind” expresses our intent to make this an
inclusive
process that involves all members. Paul writes in Philippians 2:2, “...
then
make my joy complete by being like-
one in
spirit and purpose.” This was the passage that guided the elders and
deacons
during their retreat on January 16 & 17. I Corinthians 12 also paints
a picture
of the Body of Christ that has helped shape this process.
3. What are the specific guidelines for giving feedback and input? There are
essentially
three...
• Include your full name, phone number, and email address (if you have one).
Feedback and input received without this information will not be considered.
• Resist suggesting specific goals, ministries, programs, activities, or events.
Those will be determined once this process is completed.
• Resist making comments about the past, positive or critical -
to shape the Values, Mission, and Vision that will guide our future.
4. Will we ever see the feedback and input provided by members? Yes.
Your feedback
on the draft Values and Mission statements -
the Vision -
up and distributed (without
identification) as quickly as possible.
5. With all the feedback/input, are you certain you can do this in 14 weeks?
We
will try to stay with our time frame, but the big unknown is the amount of
feedback
and input we will receive. It’s possible that the process could become
delayed
from heavy response -
