Values & Mission Statements

The final Core Values and Mission Statements are below.

There were no changes in the Core Values, and only one wording change to the Mission Statement.  At the end, the phrase “discover what it truly means to” was replaced with the word, “will.”

Core Values (final version) …

Our Values identify the Biblical principles that establish our priorities, influence our choices, and guide our actions.

Our Core Values Statement defines the Biblical principles that we believe are essential in defining our mission and our vision for the future.

Word of God

•  We believe in the Bible as the God-breathed and inerrant, unchanging Word of God.

•  We believe that what we preach, how we worship, what and how we teach, and the way we
live in Christian community and relate to the world around us is to be shaped and directed by the Word of God.

•  We believe that the doctrines contained in the Word of God are faithfully expressed by the
Westminster Confession of Faith and Catechisms.

Grace of God

•  We believe that God’s Glory is fully displayed by the Grace of God, which is the pervasive
theme, story, and message of the Bible.

•  We believe that we are reconciled to a Holy God, not by our good works or our own righteousness, but by the Grace of God that comes to us through Christ’s sinless life, perfect obedience, atoning death on the Cross, and resurrection.

•  We believe that God enables and leads us to responding to the Grace of God through the work of the Holy Spirit in each of us individually, and in our life together in the Body of Christ.

Kingdom of God

•  We believe that the Word, the sacraments, and prayer are foundational to the worship,

fellowship, and ministry of the Church.

•  We believe that the word and deed emphasis of Scripture calls us to include global outreach
and acts of mercy as a vital part of the Church’s life and ministry.

•  We believe that stewardship of time and material possessions and faithful giving to further the Kingdom of God results from the joyful acknowledgment that everything we have comes from God.

Mission (final version) …

The word “mission” comes from the Latin missium meaning to send.  Mission explains why we exist and points our values in the direction we are convinced
God is sending us.

Our Mission Statement clarifies and defines the who, what, and where of our ministry.

Our mission is to …

Communicate the Word of God, model the Grace of God, and advance the Kingdom of God such that people from Greensboro, North Carolina and to the ends of the earth will glorify God and enjoy Him forever.

Note:  A number of people asked us to clarify the word advances or advanced.  Your editorial team was not able to come up with a word that expresses the same meaning, so the word was not replaced.  The word “advance” has two meanings that apply in the above statements...

         •  To move or bring forward (e.g., advance the troops to a new position)

          •  To improve; to advance one’s purpose or interests.

Several individuals also suggested adding Scripture references - which will be done once everything is finalized.

Note:  It became clear to your editorial team that a shorter, easier to remember Mission Statement was desired - and that we need to broaden our mission field beyond Gilford County.  The team eliminated the other two sections from the initial draft, feeling that they could be better addressed in the Vision Statement.

Once again, several individual also suggested adding Scripture references - which will be done once everything is finalized.
