Values & Mission Statements

Following is the unedited feedback your Editorial Team received.  The individials providing the feedback are not identified.

CORE VALUES Feedback

What do you like MOST? _______________________________________

That our Church is founded on Biblical principles and that the core values statement states this clearly.

The emphasis on the 'inerrant Word of God' is key to the future of our church as well as the 'Grace of God is the pervasive theme, story...'  Both of these values are foundational and need to be clearly seen in the life and activities of our church.

It is quite clear.

That the Bible is upheld and we seek to have the Word of God preeminent!

I like the importance placed upon Grace.

I like that the Core Values are divided into 3 areas; Word of God,Grace of God and Kingdom of God.

Using the Grace of God as the foundation for the core values.

Emphasis on God\'s word as the foundation and His grace as the means of our salvation.

The three-fold approach (word of God, grace of God, kingdom of God); The emphasis on the inerrancy of Scripture.

Biblical principles.

Follows God's Word.  Bible – God breathed, inerrant word of God.

It states in clear, down-to-earth words what Christ Community Church believes and teaches from the pulpit every Sunday.

What is not CLEAR? __________________________________________

There may need to be more clarity on what the 'stewardship of possessions' entails...is this our time as well as material possessions or just material? More clarity is needed in this bullet point.

This statement is clear.  My prayer is that we may live up to the high standards we make.

Under the Kingdom of God, first sentence: the word advanced is not clear to me, does it mean that you get to God\'s Kingdom faster?

Third point under Grace alludes to the process of sanctification - am wondering if the wording might be expanded a little, or simplified (idea of knowing God/maturing in Christ)?  Or is repetition of ‘shaped and directed' deliberate?

It should be scripturally exemplified, meaning we should see some examples of scripture referenced in each item. Perhaps this can be an appendix or supporting document.

I have a couple of comments regarding the last two statements under God's Kingdom.

1) The first statement is: We believe that the word and deed emphasis of Scripture calls us to include outreach and acts of mercy as a vital part of the Church’s life and ministry.

I would personally like to see a stronger statement than this.  In Matt 28:19 Jesus commands his disciples to make disciples of "pante ta ethne," all people groups of the world.  This is a command, and anything less is downright disobedience to Jesus.  At the end of John, Jesus commands Peter to feed his sheep.  In a similar fashion, anything less is disobedience to Jesus' command.  So, I would like to see stronger language, like "scripture commands us to spread the gospel to all the world, and to do so in word and in deed."

2)  The last statement:

We believe that stewardship of possessions and faithful giving to further the Kingdom of God

results from the thankful acknowledgment that everything we have comes from God.

Two passages of scripture might help us refine this statement a bit more.  I am thinking of Acts 4 and 2 Cor. 8,9.  In Acts, the believers did not treat their possessions as their own, but sold them and shared them freely for the sake of the body.  I think this goes beyond simply "good stewardship."  I know this involves a lot of trust among the believers of a church, but it is the example that scripture gives us, and I don't want us to sell ourselves short.  In 2 Cor. Paul tells the Corinthian church that the church in Philippi gave from their poverty out of joy.  I think joy might be a more biblically accurate description of motivation for giving instead of "thankful acknowledgement," as it is currently stated.

Seems very clear.

What aspects do you QUESTION? ______________________________

None. I believe all are Biblically sound.

Is there an ARP standard to which we are to adhere?

Again – may we live what we proclaim.

I'm not too fired up for the sacraments\I personally donft think they are on the same level as the word and prayer.  I didn’t see much mention of fellowship, didn’t see much about approaching God/Truth in contemporary methods, didn’t see much about our brokenness and our sinful nature which leads us into greater fellowship with God.
