CORE VALUES Feedback - continued

What is MISSING? ___________________________________________

The words “Reformed” and “Presbyterian” as well as “Associate Reformed Presbyterian” have not been used in establishing our identity as a church.  We should be fairly specific in order that we not be confused with the good Baptist or Methodist churches down the road.  Many people who have attended here for years seem to think we are an independent Baptist church in what we believe.

There is also no mention of our adherence to The Westminster Confession of Faith with the Scripture as our final authority.

There needs to be some statement under the 'Grace of God' that claims sin is nailed to the cross b/c of Christ and not us. This inferred, but not entirely clear. There needs to be clarity on new life in Christ.

A nice to have would be a diagram, a visual that illustrates the key principles.

For the other missing parts, I think I can make a summary statement that will include it all.  I got to thinking about this when I read this statement under "The Grace of God:"

We believe that the Grace of God is the pervasive theme, story, and message of the Bible.

The Grace of God is a pervasive theme, story and message of the Bible, but it is not the most pervasive.  The more important one is the Glory of God.  I don't mean to split hairs here.  I think it is an important distinction.  Let me give an example.  The most important reason for Jesus died on the cross was not to save us from our sins.  This is a very very important reason, but there is one that is even more important.  It is so that God could bring Jesus from the dead on the third day, seat him at his right hand, and give him glory, majesty, honor, and authority that he did not have before he was crucified.  This is the most important thing that happened because of calvary.

I think this should affect our core values because we need to know what our place is.  God is creator, we are the created.  The story of the Bible is primarily about him.  by his grace we are able to participate in glorifying his name.  This distinction is important because if we think God saving us from our sins is the most important thing in the Bible, then we tend to read the Bible and think that it is all about us.  God's glory is at the center of it, and this truth puts proper perspective on the Bible and on our salvation.  It keeps us humble, especially when things in life aren't going the way we would chose!

Cannot think of anything that is missing.

(1) Under "Word of God", add the word "unchanging" (or something like it) to the first point as a descriptor of God's Word. (2) Under "Kingdom of God" include worship and outreach under the second point (assuming this is meant to be a list of the fundamental components of the life & ministry of the Church). (3) Under "Kingdom of God" add "and a desire to participate in advancing His Kingdom" at the end of the sentence in the 5th (last) point.

What OTHER FEEDBACK do you have? _________________________

This is a doctrine that with challenge we members (not clear) may seek to live the goals.

Emphasize:  We preach the Word of God, or God's Word is taught at Christ Community.

MISSION Feedback

What do you like MOST? _______________________________________

Clearly states our mission.

I like the emphasis on Christian Hedonism so to speak in the first mission statement (\'to enjoy him forever\') as it puts the emphasis both on our joy in receiving Christ as savior as well as our future of hope in Him alone and heaven.

Stated well.

That it's purpose is to glorify God and send His message to the world.

I like the importance on the transformational power of God and His impact on the community.

I like that the emphasis is biblically grounded and focused outward (Guilford County, USA, the World).
Easy to understand. Simple and not complicated.

The overall statement is complete.

The link between the Core Values and the Mission Statement; The idea of helping the people around us discover what it means to glorify God and enjoy Him forever; The focus on outreach; The focus on equipping church members.

verbs: communicate, model, advance.

Covers the important aspects.

Helps me understand the true meaning of the great commission.  It includes where I live, not just foreign places.

What is not CLEAR? _________________________________________

Not sure what the verb 'advance' means...how do we \'enable\' the missionaries--Prayer, encourage, etc....might be better (set up like the final comments with verb emphasis that reveal the actions that will be taken)

The word advance needs some clarification.
